Children's toys
Lite- Brite was a children's game created in 1967 but became popular in the 70's. The game consisted of an easel like structure with outlines with the marked color, which you could pin on the front. When you were done putting the pegs in, you would turn on a light and it would illuminate the picture.
Rock'em Sock'em Robots were again invented in the 60's, but became popular in the 70's. This was a two player game where you would each have a robot and they would fight each other. Whoever got the best hit in, the head would pop up and you would win.
Sea monkeys were started in the 50's and continued right up to the 70's. They were little shrimp that when they came in contact with water, hatched! They were able to do tricks, like follow light and even "dance!" They were easy to take care of and even little kids could do it.
Mystery date was created in 1965-1970, and was marketed to girls ages 6-14. The object of the game was to get three color coated cards to get your outfit ready and then opening the door by twisting the knob to find out who your date would be. This game is still being made today.
Created in the 70's, Ray Lohr took tricycle parts and added them in a different way to resemble a race car for kids. You could almost always look out your window and see a kid going down the street in one of these. These are also still made today.
The pop gun was created in 1976, and was actually banned because it was thought to be dangerous. This toy consisted of a wooden gun with a cork inside, connected to a string when you would pull the "trigger," the cork would come out with a POP! You would then put it back in and continue to play your game.
